Another great meeting at Shireoak
With a well-equipped clubhouse on site featuring a live band playing all the top tunes, along with an engaging quiz night, what’s not to like about this vibrant and welcoming site.
With a beautiful walk along the canal into the small and pleasant town, visitors can enjoy peaceful waterside views, charming pathways lined with greenery, and the gentle sounds of nature. The canal provides a tranquil route that leads straight into the heart of the town, and a cozy cafe and friendly locals create a welcoming atmosphere. This combination of scenic stroll and warm community makes for an ideal outing or a relaxing escape.
Goodbye to our summer home at Brixham
I write this as the THS is winding down. Tomorrow we say goodbye to our summer home at Brixham Rugby Club. We have had a fantastic reception as always from the folk at the club. In total we have had 93 units and have met friends old and new this year.
Ted has finally completed his apprenticeship and is now a valued member of the team. Our thanks go to Richard and Maria for making the long journey down to Devon to stay with us once more.
The weather has been fantastic and our visitors have also contributed to make it a successful THS.
Brenda & Ted
May I first thank Brenda. Ted is now a fantastic Steward. Brenda has worked really hard taking all the bookings and then all the money on site. This is no small job. Without people like them the THS would not be able to run. We have had great weather, lots of units on site, and cards and gifts given to us in appreciation of our hard work. We all hope the THS will run next year. Last but not least to my husband Bill unlocking the gate, and siting the units, he has walked miles this holiday. Hope to see you all again
Linda.
Stratford Racecourse weekend
6th - 8th June 2025
After all the worries about the weather, we were pleased to see sunshine and just a bit of wind. Yes, it did rain; we experienced a heavy downpour for about thirty minutes on Saturday afternoon after returning from Stratford, but then the sun came out.
Thanks to Anne, John, Kieran, and their helpers, Linda and Bill, for managing the meeting. We attended a beer and cider festival at the same location. John arranged for us to get £2 off the entrance and an extra beer token since we were there for the rally. There were fifty real ales and twenty ciders from across the UK, and two bands played on the Saturday.
I believe this event will be on the East Midlands meet list for next year. Stratford was bustling with visitors from around the world, and we were surprised by the Dragon Boat Racing.
We met new friends at our rally from various areas, including Coventry, Worcester, Hereford, West Dorset, Gloucester, Liverpool, SW Lancs, Huddersfield, Spondon, and the West Midlands. Our next meet feels so far off on July 6th in Brixham, followed by returning home to Lyndon Top on July 21st.
Ian Jan & Teddy
For those people who were unable to attend the coffee morning.
I’d like to take this opportunity to provide you with the answers to the 90s music quiz that was presented during the gathering to stratford on avon racecourse,
I hope that this information proves to be helpful for everyone who participated in the quiz or who may have shown interest in it.
Market Bosworth 40s weekend 2nd - 4th May 2025
We all arrived on Friday afternoon to glorious sunshine, a lovely venue with hard standing and a hall with outside seating. In total 41units arrived on Friday, with a few arriving Saturday morning; what a turnout for a Bank Holiday three day rally.
Friday afternoon the weather was sunny and warm and people sat out enjoying the weather until 7.30. Later in the evening most people met up in the hall chatting with old friends and making some lovely new ones.
Saturday was sunny but the wind was cooler, some walked into Market Bosworth through the park, took their dogs for a walk or sat outside out of the wind.
In the afternoon vans and the seating area were decorated for the forties theme and a street party was held outside the hall with b.y.o. sandwiches, cakes and drinks Old songs were playing and most we were able to sing along to.
In the evening we went over to the hall where we entrained by the two ladies, the Devine Devers [I think ], again 1940s music/singing and after the break Abba. A number of people joined in the singing.
Sunday free and easy, again sunny with a cool breeze. Some went for walks again or walked to the Steam Railway where there was also a vintage motorbike show. In the afternoon tea and cake in the hall provided the committee.
In the evening across to the hall again this time for card bingo and normal bingo, again what a laugh.
Paul [Daddy] had given up motorhoming, well he is 99 this year and a world war 2 veteran. No longer attending but not forgotten; he had made two handy persons boxes which Ian kindly auctioned off but not before he had passed one around for people to put this ‘shrapnel’ in. All proceeds going to the British Legion, it made £ 48.62 thanks to member’s generosity. Maria on behalf of Dad gave her thanks to all. When Paul was was given the money he was overwhelmed and sends his thanks to everyone who gave so generously, he’s trying to raise £200 before November and is two thirds of the way there.
Monday morning people packed up their units and some leaving early as they had a distance to travel. In the hall for tea/coffee more cake and the raffle was drawn which made £90 going toward hiring halls in the winter. Dan gave an update of the Midlands Group rallies and Ian the East Midlands Chairman thanked everyone for coming and gave an update on East Midlands rallies.
Big thanks to the Committee for running the weekend, and hope to see you at the National AGM at Southport.
